Shadow mode
Automation & SystemsShadow mode (shadow environment)
Also: shadow environment, shadow
Shadow mode, sometimes called a shadow environment, lets an automation run against live data and produce real decisions, while its outbound effects (emails, messages, calendar events, record changes) are contained and recorded instead of sent. Staff can see precisely what it would have done.
It is how a workflow earns the right to go live. Only after a clean shadow history does a human switch it to production. It is the safety step that turns 'we think this works' into evidence, before anything reaches a client.
