Health check

A health check pings a system on a schedule and confirms the essential parts respond: the database answers, the key services are reachable, the critical steps work, the storage responds. If a check fails, the team is alerted right away.

It is how you find out something broke because you were watching, not because a client complained. Regular health checks turn 'is it still working?' from a guess into a monitored fact.
